Every year Cal Press provides grants to select college students who demonstrate an exceptional interest in pursuing careers in the news business in California.

The application for 2025 Internship Grants is now open!

The program will provide up to seven $2,500 grants to college students who obtain newsroom internships at California news companies in 2025.

Students must seek and secure the internship on their own at a California news company. Internships must be full-time and last at least six weeks.

To be considered, please submit a complete application with all requested information by January 15, 2025. Finalists will be notified late January 2025 and should be prepared to participate in a personal interview.

Students and educators: Applications require an essay, references, work samples and a transcript. Students may apply with a simple online form but will need to gather materials.

News companies: Now is the time to contact a college adviser! Reach out to JOUR•Ed to inquire about educators in your area to connect with a promising student and endorse their application.
