Six university students are recipients of California Press Foundation’s 2025 internship grants.
The students who each have demonstrated an exceptional interest in pursuing careers in the news business in California, will each receive a $3,000 educational grant when they begin their internships.
“These students are the future of California journalism,” said journalism educator Linda Bowen, Cal Press Director and head of its Grants Committee. “Their passion and commitment to truth-telling is exactly what our industry needs. By investing in them, we strengthen the sustainability of local news.”
Students are required to pursue and secure internships on their own at California news companies. Internships, which can occur in spring, summer or fall, must be full-time and last at least six weeks.
The 2025 newsroom internship recipients, colleges and hometowns are:
- Autumn DeGrazia, California State University San Francisco, Vallejo
- Giselle Garza Lerma, California State University San Francisco, San Francisco
- Joseph Zuloaga, Columbia University, San Francisco
- Victoria Erin Mejicanos, Cal Poly Pomona, Los Angeles
- Vincent Medina, California State University Long Beach, Norwalk
- Zipporah Pruitt, California State University Northridge, Los Angeles
Since 1995, Cal Press has funded nearly 200 internship grants, putting student journalists in dozens of small, medium and large newsrooms – from San Diego to the far North Coast. To contact the finalists, please email info@cal-press.org.
