Danielle McKinney is the inaugural Tim Crews Fellow, the California Press Foundation has
announced. The fellowship will begin May 1, 2023.
McKinney, a 2021 Sacramento State University alum, will serve as an entrepreneurial
ambassador to expand and energize the Cal Press mission.
Using a recently developed Strategic Plan, McKinney will:
• Help to develop project funding plans, including donor materials, target lists, outreach programs and events.
• Help to create programs to forge cooperative partnerships between Cal Press and strategic funding partners throughout the state including community foundations and private and public foundations.
• Develop processes that will provide structure, consistency and engagement for Cal Press’ external communication programs across multiple platforms including social, email and others deemed appropriate.
• Develop programs that will create greater engagement with high school, community college and university students, which may include contests, in-classroom curriculum or seminars.
“We believe Danielle is exceptionally well-suited to help take the California Press Foundation to the next level in terms of fund-raising initiatives and our goal of increasing connectivity between state news media executives and journalism educators,” said John Burns, chair of the Cal Press Board of Directors.
"With a plethora of qualified applicants for this fellowship, we are thrilled that Danielle was chosen as our inaugural fellow," said Eric Johnston, chair of the California Press Foundation’s Strategic Planning Committee. "Her proven passion for journalism education in California will be a tremendous benefit to the strategic plan our board has created as a roadmap for the future."
