The California Press Foundation has pledged its support to the crucial future of local journalism. It has begun a transition from reliance upon individual support toward local and regional contributions from individuals and institutions who believe in the value of local news to the state's democracy.
To ensure the transition is made with urgency, Cal Press has enlisted the support and influence of Rowland “Reb” Rebele (pictured above). Reb, a former newspaper owner, is a sustaining supporter of Cal Press and of many other nonprofit organizations. He was the 1988 recipient of the Cal Press Philip N. McCombs Achievement Award and former CNPA president.
We have launched the #RebeleChallenge and Reb himself is prepared to kick the challenge off with a $100,000 personal donation pledge.
Reb has pledged to initiate a 1:1 challenge match this year so that Cal Press can enhance its investment portfolio by $200,000 and fund a six-month fellowship in the name of Tim Crews.
In honor of Tim Crews, Cal Press aims to deploy an ambassador to connect the statewide mission of the organization to new funding opportunities and beneficiaries. The holder of the Tim Crews fellowship would be a skilled entrepreneur, outreach specialist and communicator who would enhance Cal Press’ visibility among those who would support the funding of local news and would ensure that Cal Press commits these resources to the best local use.
Rebele's support, in the form of a pledge of $100,000, is contingent upon Cal Press securing a matching $100,000 from concerned contributors. Any donation, big or small, will be matched by Reb.
Thank you for your interest in and support of Cal Press.
