Each year, Cal Press awards equipment grants to California journalism programs at the high school, community college and university level.
This year, 16 California campus news programs received grants from Cal Press to fund the purchase of new hardware or software, or for upgrades to improve the quality of the campus media program’s content and delivery. Applicants submitted detailed essays describing their current equipment, its limitations, why they need new or upgraded equipment and how that equipment would improve their publications.
Cal Press has issued equipment grants to more than 140 campus news programs since 2000. Contributions from individual Cal Press members and supporters provide the funding for these grants. This year a total of $15,000 was distributed, with grants amounts ranging from $500 to $1,500.
