The California Press Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Danielle McKinney as the first full-time Executive Director in its 147-year history. This strategic hire reflects Cal Press’ ongoing commitment and evolution in supporting journalism throughout California.
“Danielle has served as the inaugural Tim Crews Fellow for the past year and has played a crucial role in shaping the future of the Foundation’s initiatives," said Eric Johnston, Chair of the Board of Directors. “Her work has helped lead the evolution of Cal Press and has laid a strong foundation for our initiatives aimed at supporting the next generation of journalism education in California.”
As Executive Director, McKinney will oversee the Foundation’s operations, with key responsibilities including the articulation and execution of Cal Press’ vision, mission, and overall strategy. Reporting directly to the Chairperson and the Board of Directors, she will develop and implement strategies to ensure the long-term fiscal sustainability of the organization, particularly through philanthropic funding partnerships. McKinney will also manage the Foundation’s Strategic Plans, foster relationships with individual and institutional funders, and ensure that Cal Press’ programs represent California’s diverse communities.
