Student-run newspaper, The Union, at El Camino College in Torrance, CA recieved a 2023 Equipment Grant from Cal Press. They used the funding to aquire additional cameras and lenses.
Upgrade Your Gear
The California Press Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2024 Campus Equipment Grants program. Any California high school or college newsroom is eligible to apply. The application deadline is Friday, May 10.
The grants go toward the purchase of new hardware or software, or for upgrades to improve the quality of the campus media program's content and delivery. Applicants must describe their current equipment, its limitations, why they need new or upgraded equipment and how that equipment would improve their publications.
There is no minimum grant amount. The maximum amount for a grant is $1,500.
Cal Press has issued equipment grants to more than 150 campus news programs since 2000. Cal Press enriches and grows California's news gathering ecosystem by encouraging inclusivity, collaboration and the ongoing support of quality journalism education.
